Worth the Wait
I know it's been a while since you've heard from us at Gestalt Effect. You can rest assure that we haven't been twiddling our thumbs.
What is Work 2.0?
Recently there's been increased noise around Work 2.0. The term began surfacing in 2007 and described the efforts of quite a few software companies to develop the next sticky tech that would replace the niche filled by Microsoft Office. I've been wondering alot about what we're supposed to do with all these terms . . .
Collaborative enterprise memo
When we launched Gestalt Effect we wanted a manifesto around our thinking about enterprise collaboration. Reggie put one together, I didn't like it as a manifesto so he turned it into his first blog post. I put one together and he didn't like it (so I'm turning it into this blog post). We landed on one we could both agree on and it's on the site now. Aside form this blog and the news section, I anticipate the manifesto will be the most edited piece on the site. I think the changes to the manifesto will be less about evolution of the industry and more about evolution of our exposure and thinking about the industry. Bellow are my thoughts on what it takes to build a collaborative environment inside the enterprise
Solving The Enterprise Collaboration Problem
I often refer to the work we do at Gestalt Effect as solving the problem of Enterprise Collaboration. This is apt because the rapid adoption of social technologies for both personal and professional use is daunting. The sheer number of tools available creates a problem for stakeholders working to solve particular and unique business problems.
Remain Calm
Consider all the time from all the lives of all the people who sit in front of a piece of glowing plastic, trying to earn their paycheck. How much of that time is spent in mastery, getting smarter, making connections, going deeper, applying tools that feel like an extension of thinking? In other words, how much time do people spend feeling they have just a little control (another way of saying “happy”)?
You started a consulting company now? Are you freakin’ crazy?
When I tell people I’ve started a new company I get a look. You know the look, most are too polite to say it, but I get the look that asks, “Are you an idiot, have you turned on a television or opened the paper in the last 4 months?” While I understand their concern for my mental fitness, I needed to start this company and I needed to start it now.
Next Week: What is Gestalt Effect?
Since our launch we've been talking with individuals and organizations about the value of an effective collaboration strategy. Next week our principal consultants will blog about a few topics including how Gestalt Effect came to be.
Rubber to the Road
The bicycle is a good analogy for the enterprise ecosystem. On the bike it’s all about the smooth transfer of power from the human body to the machine.
Urban planning and collaborative teams
The Bankside Urban Forest is an urban design and landscape architecture project being implemented by Witherford Watson Mann (WWM) in London. As opposed to traditional top-down methodology of urban planning WWM enacted a process that fits with a methodology that creates strong collaborative team in the enterprise.
The Gestalt Effect Mission
Our President, Dwayne King, already blogged about why we're called Gestalt Effect. Your next most immediate question might be what does Gestalt Effect do? As the lead consultant for Gestalt Effect I'll take charge of answering that one.
